New Validated CO2 Carbon Footprint Certification for entities that plan and manage events.

AENOR has launched the innovative “Validated CO2 Carbon Footprintcertification, designed for entities that plan and manage events, and is part of AENOR’s initiatives toDecarbonize business activity“. With this certification, organizations can obtain recognition prior to the planned event, and once concluded, they must carry out the measurement of their carbon emissions and obtain the corresponding accreditation.

The Carbon Footprint is a measure used to evaluate and quantify the total amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted directly or indirectly by a person, company, product, service or event in a specific period of time. These greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and others, which contribute to global warming and climate change.

The objective of calculating the Carbon Footprint is to understand and reduce the environmental impact of a specific entity or activity, thus contributing to climate change mitigation. Organizations and companies often calculate their Carbon Footprint as part of their efforts to reduce GHG emissions and adopt more sustainable practices. In addition, sustainability certifications and standards often include Carbon Footprint measurement and reduction as an important component of assessing and improving environmental performance.

Along with compliance assessment, the verification process includes a thorough analysis covering three dimensions: strategic, risk and process.

This procedure culminates in the submission of a report documenting the findings and results obtained. If the review determines that the established criteria are met, AENOR will proceed to issue a CO2 Emissions Validation certificate, subject to the subsequent quantification of CO2 emissions once the event is concluded.
