New ISO/IEC 42001 Artificial Intelligence Management System Standard
The growing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business processes and activities is a palpable reality, demonstrating advances and benefits in a wide range of organizations and sectors. However, the inappropriate use of this technology carries significant risks, highlighting the need to establish minimum standards of security and ethics in data handling and related projects.
In response to this need, ISO and IEC have developed ISO/IEC 42001: Artificial Intelligence Management System. This standard aims to provide guidance to entities and organizations on the responsible use of AI systems and models, being the first certifiable international standard in this area. It should be noted that this standard is applicable to any type of organization, providing a solid framework to ensure the integrity and proper management of AI in the business environment.
The objectives of ISO/IEC 42001 can be summarized as follows:
- Encourage the development and implementation of reliable, transparent and accountable AI systems.
- Assist organizations in identifying and mitigating risks associated with AI adoption, which in turn improves efficiency and reduces costs.
- Foster greater confidence in AI management by encouraging organizations to prioritize human well-being, safety and user experience in AI design and implementation.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology presents great potential, however, like any other innovation, its application must be done responsibly to ensure its effectiveness.
